A collection of oral histories collected from ‘locals’ – defined in this part of the world as someone with a generation or two in the graveyard. Little River, my home town, is a tiny place on the edge of one of the fastest growing areas in the southern hemisphere and has a long and rich history as a traveller stop, for farming and livestock and, more recently, for mountain biking in the You Yangs.
This book has been commissioned by the very energetic Little River Historical Society (who brought you the super successful TT Races and Mad Max celebrations in past years) and is in the planning stages, pending funding and sponsorship. However, a couple of preliminary interviews have been done to help get the book on it’s feet.
Ron & Pat Rees,
3rd generation Little River farmers.
Going to Geelong in those days was a bit of an adventure. When I was 16 my brother and I bought a motorbike just so we could get to the dances. There’s where I spied Pat.
Bill Hughes, 3rd generation farmer.
I went to the school at Little River, but I didn’t spend much time there. It really wasn’t for me, I was too busy working on the farm or figuring out ways to make some extra pennies.
